It’s that time of year again!

MSMC, MEDiC and MSA* would like to ask you to consider donating to our collaborative HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE.

Our goal is to connect as many Salvation Army families with the resources they may need for the holidays.

	When?: Now through December 21st

What?: We will graciously accept monetary gifts as well as other gifts including hats, gloves, board games, books, action figures, etc. Please keep in mind that many of these families are homeless and therefore need things that are easily mobile and sustainable. We want to respect your pocketbooks as well, so please keep gift donations below $20.

How?: Monetary donations will be collected during lecture on Friday and will be put towards purchasing holiday gifts for Salvation Army families. Other gifts can be placed in the collection box located in the atrium.

Cards?: Materials will be provided to make holiday cards during the Coda Blue performance in the HSLC Atrium on Friday afternoon. For more information on this, please contact Yi at ding4@wisc.edu.

Med School is the 2012 Dean’s Cup Champion! In the classic annual battle for professional school supremacy on the UW campus, the Med School emerged victorious, retaining the Cup for another year at the HSLC. When asked about the back-to-back championships, second-year med student Allison Aul said, “This is exactly what winners do: win. Coming into last year as an M1 I feel like our class
made a real commitment to being Dean’s Cup Champions, and as the results show, it paid off. Back-to-back champs.” Sasha Mahvi, also a second year medical student, went on to further describe the victory as “hands down [the] greatest accomplishment of my medical school career.” In 2011, the Med School only won by a slim margin of less than 5 points, but this year the score was a bit more lopsided with the Med School defeating the Law School by a margin of 46 points. Aul summed up the difference as being “complete domination due to tireless work ethic and competitiveness of my classmates even in spite of their obviously busier schedules.” This represents the first back-to-back championships for the Med School since the 2004, 2005 campaigns. When asked about the Med School victory, Chris, a law student who spoke on the condition that his last name be omitted, simply stated, “I [dislike them],” representing the sour grapes being tasted at the Law School over the tough/humiliating loss. When Aul learned of these comments, her response was, “All that matters is that the Law School tried their best, and that’s all anyone can ask for. Unfortunately, their best ended up getting them beat by 46 points. I still like them though.”

In all seriousness, playful banter and jokes aside (see above), the Dean’s Cup ran smoothly and was once again a great opportunity for Med and Law students to engage in some friendly competition and build professional and social relationships. The real winner is the Dane County Rape Crisis Center, to whom proceeds from the event will be donated. The 2012 Dean’s Cup saw exciting athletic and intellectual competition and brought enjoyment and pride to both schools. The Dean’s Cup Ball concluding ceremony saw the division of competition buried as med and law school students came together again to celebrate the privilege of being a professional student on this campus. Even though the Med School prevailed this year, both schools should be proud of their accomplishments and of being able to call such multi-talented individuals their friends and colleagues. So with the conclusion of the 2012 campaign, the time-honored tradition of the Dean’s Cup lives on.

Thanks to all who participated this year. YOU made the 2012 Dean’s Cup a success!

Your faithful blogger,

Augie
